Founded Balance in October 2008

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

My parents owned a country store that was on the same property as our house. I always say I literally grew up in a business. My love for business was born dusting the shelves of Hickory Market. Growing up behind the counter of a family run business set off a spark in me that I'm certain will never go out. Hickory Market taught me at an early age the importance of treating customers right. My crib was just on the other side of the counter, and I was helped raised by a community of customers. When my dad passed away in 2004, I moved back home to help my mom run our store. The community that my dad had spent a life time serving, took care of mom and me more than I could ever have imagined.

With Balance, I look to build on those lessons and run a business that both realizes the importance of community and one that would make my dad proud.

I love all things business and am blessed to have a mind that is quickly able to assess need, determine next steps and take action. My appetite for learning is insatiable and my desire to be the best leader I can be fuels me. There is a great responsibility owning a business. Each day the company I created can leave the mark on over 150 people. My goal is to make sure that the mark we leave is going to have a lasting and positive impact. Everyone is someone’s most important person. I’m building a business that doesn’t just recognize this but celebrates it.

Our Commitment to Service

Our YES AND approach to client service is in place to make sure we consistently work to set, meet and exceed your expectations.

Chris and I know that our clients are the heart of our business, and we want to work hard to make sure we have a business we can all be proud to be a part of.

Even on the most challenging days, I’m grateful, hungry, and excited by the privilege to run a business. I’m pretty sure I’m the luckiest person in the world.

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I applied for a part time job with a new company that had a great purpose: to help people. I started off working the front desk a few days a week and within a year was working a full time position. My role and responsibilities have grown over the years but I still do what I was hired to do – to help people.

What does being a part of the BMT community mean to you?

Being part of the BMT community means being committed to doing the right things for the right reasons, and looking for opportunities to make a difference in somebody’s life. It also means knowing that there is a team in place at BMT to support you.

What do you like best about helping our clients?

What I like best about helping our clients is restoring people’s faith in client service. I think a lot of workers and businesses forget that they and the client are on the same team, and should work together as two people to have a good relationship.

Favorite way to YES! And… a client:

I love telling a client “Yes” to something they aren’t expecting me to say yes to.

What is your favorite service story?

There are so many. One of my favorites is when there were two people in the parking lot that were having trouble changing a flat because the tire iron did not quite fit the lug nuts properly. I tried to help, and ended up asking 2 or 3 other people at BMT if they had a tire iron that would fit. Not only did every person look through their cars, they also tried to see if they could get the tire off or come up with a different solution. In the end, the car had to be towed, but the people were so grateful that we went above and beyond to try to help.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Well it is hard to pick just one; however, Haagen-Dazs used to make a passion fruit ice cream with just 5 ingredients. That was probably the best ice cream I ever had.

What is your dream vacation?

I really love going up north in Michigan no matter what the season. Although my absolute dream vacation would to be to take my whole family to Brazil to meet my wife’s extended family.

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I enjoy working in customer service, but I’m very selective about the company I work for. When I was searching for a job, I needed somewhere with great energy and a good community. BMT has been able to provide that for me.

What does being a part of the BMT community mean to you?

I really love the energy I get from the BMT community. It brings positivity and a focus on good health to my day. Being able to help people achieve that means a lot to me.

What do you like best about helping our clients?

I like to see the transformation from someone dealing with stress and pain to someone floating away, having left it all behind.

Favorite way to YES! And… a client:

I like to assure someone that we can help them, then to go on and explain which therapists would best meet their needs and why. I also like showing clients the ways we can help make massage affordable and adaptable.

What is your favorite service story?

So many. It’s difficult to narrow down. My favorites are when clients recognize me outside of Balance and appreciate what we do for them.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

The Michigan Black Bear at Washtenaw Dairy.

What is your dream vacation?

Road trip through Central and South America.

Found Balance in June 2019

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT
I moved back to the Ann Arbor area after finishing undergrad at Oakland University, and I was looking for a small business to work for. What I found was not just a small business, but a place where people personally know and care for each other. As soon as I walked in the door, I knew this was a place where I wanted to be!

What does being a part of the BMT community mean to you?
It means taking part in a culture where we’re always looking out for each other while we serve the community by helping clients get amazing massage experiences!
What do you like best about helping our clients?
Being a part of helping someone to feel better, whether physically, mentally, or both, by getting them a great massage is always rewarding! When clients are happy, that feeling wears off on me, too.

Favorite way to YES! And… a client:
I like assuring clients we can find a therapist who is a good fit for them and can help them in whatever way they need helping.

What is your favorite service story?
I was at Balance once when there was a car crash at the intersection outside. One of our clients called up to make sure everyone on the team was okay. We found out another client was waiting with the people in the crash until the ambulance got there. Our team wrote both of them thank you notes to let them know how much we appreciate them not only as clients, but also as caring community members!

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Moosetracks
What is your dream vacation?
A trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand. I’d love to visit the Ethical Elephant Sanctuary there, where visitors can help take care of rescued elephants and even give them mud baths!
