Josie Ann Lee

Founded Balance in October 2008


Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

My parents owned a country store that was on the same property as our house. I always say I literally grew up in a business. My love for business was born dusting the shelves of Hickory Market. Growing up behind the counter of a family run business set off a spark in me that I'm certain will never go out. Hickory Market taught me at an early age the importance of treating customers right. My crib was just on the other side of the counter, and I was helped raised by a community of customers. When my dad passed away in 2004, I moved back home to help my mom run our store. The community that my dad had spent a life time serving, took care of mom and me more than I could ever have imagined.

With Balance, I look to build on those lessons and run a business that both realizes the importance of community and one that would make my dad proud.

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I applied for a part time job with a new company that had a great purpose: to help people. I started off working the front desk a few days a week and within a year was working a full time position. My role and responsibilities have grown over the years but I still do what I was hired to do – to help people.

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I enjoy working in customer service, but I’m very selective about the company I work for. When I was searching for a job, I needed somewhere with great energy and a good community. BMT has been able to provide that for me.

Brent "graduated" from Balance in December of 2017!  He currently is working at the Cambridge Michigan Language Assessments at the University of Michigan.

He is still making an impact on Balance though and serves as our consultant for training, leadership, and marketing needs.

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

During my junior year at Eastern Michigan University, I was searching for a part time job that would allow me to continue to focus on school and also give me excellent work experience.  I've always been interested in massage therapy, so when I came across a job posting on Craigslist to be part of the Balance team it seemed like the perfect fit for me...and it was!

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I've always had a passion for helping people whether it be working in the hospital with patients, helping people sign up for Medicaid, or scheduling someone for their therapeutic massage I've managed to find a way to put my passion to work. In the months before I found BMT, I was having some health problems that made me think long and hard about where I spent my time and how. I realized that I needed a better work-life balance and when my job search came across a company called 'Balance' I was intrigued. I was really drawn to their commitment to a good experience for everyone and wanted to learn from their service model.

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I had recently graduated from the University of Michigan and was looking to find work for my gap year before going to grad school. I knew I wanted to be in the wellness industry so when I came across BMT's Craigslist listing, I thought it'd be a great fit for me. From the moment I stepped inside Balance, I knew this was the perfect place for me to work, from the calming atmosphere to the friendly teammates. I love being at BMT and I'm so thankful I found this place and this team!

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I had just completed my undergrad at Eastern Michigan University, and was looking for a meaningful part-time job while starting my MBA and finishing off my last year as a collegiate athlete. It was hard to find a place willing to work with my schedule, but when I found Balance's ad and website I had to check it out. Right away, it was apparent that everyone here cares about you as more than just a co-worker; they get to know you as a person and want to know what's going on in your life. I'm so happy I found BMT and all of the wonderful people here!

Briefly describe your story and what brought you to BMT:

I was working as a server and had been unhappy for quite awhile. I felt undervalued, and there was a lot of negative energy which was affecting me both at work and at home.  I finally decided it was time to leave and find a job that made me happier. When I saw Balance Massage Therapy's job posting, I knew that it was the kind of workplace I was seeking.  I loved that the application, instead of simply asking for my job history and references, it asked thought-provoking questions about my story, learning style, strengths, and what good service means to me. When I met with Mike and Josie for the interview, we knew it was going to be a great fit for me and for the team!
